Thank you Sandra and PB for all this wonderful help. The newspaper notices are great to have. There are some minor discrepancies such as Edward Strawson’s marriage happening in Canada although his death notice says that he arrived in Canada with a young wife. Sadly, this family did not have good luck with the sons who all died young. Newspaper says Walter was the fourth son of David and Charlotte, but I believe there were only three sons. There are only three on the different censii is at any rate.
From what I understand from a descendant of one of David’s siblings, Mary Annie, the rest of the siblings either went to New Zealand or stayed in Ireland. Hence the reference in Walter James’s death article to New Zealand. I don’t know much about his siblings except for Margaret Johnston who married Robert Johnston in Ireland Nov 20, 1879 and then emigrated to New Zealand on December 31, 1879 as per findagrave, the parents of David and Margaret being David Johnston and Elizabeth Dixon/Dickson. I have the Death Certificates of Robert and Margaret.
The father David was born about 1827 probably in Mayne, Co. Tyrone, married Elizabeth on April 10, 1851 in Pomeroy and then died November 22, 1886 in Crosh, district of Omagh, County Tyrone. His father was William as per the marriage record. I have father David’s one sentence death notice and an article about his land being sold in 1887 and the family planning to depart for New Zealand. Elizabeth had predeceased David, dying July 31, 1876 in Omagh, Co. Tyrone.
