Sorry for the later response, I hadn’t seen this until now

Thank you very much for the articles. That gives a lot more context now. Poor Charles  :(

This information brilliant, thanks for the burials. I think I’ll put a memorial on FG.
It doesn’t seem Mary lived very long after Charles, maybe his death was a factor.

By the articles it looks like they had children together, but none survived.

Thank you. Interesting about the abode as one article has her living at ‘Green Street’. I guess that must’ve been temporary and she moved back home. Not even a year after Charles died.  :(

Died of pneumonia from her GRO record.

I just reread the article Mary Ann her brother lived at 31 Cumberland Street Mary stayed there then Charles joined her, Mary  then had briefly gone to stay with friends at 6 Green Street ,it appears Charles was very ill before his death,

A little bit of information that may interest you,

Mary Ann's brother named his son after Charles Marshall,
Bishopwearmouth cemetery
Charles Marshall Charlton,
aged 8 months,
buried November 26th 1886,
father John Robson Charlton, a green grocer,
abode 31 Cumberland St
place of burial ward 1 , section a, grave 3873

Durham records online, John Robson Charlton death,22 King Street, 1931 born circa 1863
this makes it so much easier to pin point the correct Charltons, in 1871, Cumberland St , Henry Charlton aged 30 a glass founder, born Newcastle Upon Tyne, his wife Elizabeth aged 30 born Sunderland, children John Robson aged 9, Mary Ann aged 7, both born Sunderland , in 1881 John R and Mary Ann are still with Dad Henry in Cumberland St .Mum Elizabeth died 1876 at Cumberland St,

Thank you for all this information, it is very helpful.

I’d found that 1881 census of Charlton’s with Mary Ann couldn’t confirm it until now, so that’s good. Poor family certainly went through a lot.

I’ve now made memorials for Charles and Mary Ann. Nice to be able to connect them  :) https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/277674871/charles_marshall

I do wonder if this was their son;
