Can anyone help with any information on Hester Basham born 1812 & died 1834 age 22, as I'm hoping that someone local to Cambridgeshire / Suffolk area might have something that's not yet online.

Hester was born 1812 Great Thurlow, Suffolk and Died 1834 Dullingham and had a Son – William Basham Born 17 March 1832 Dullingham and Died 16 October 1895 Newport Monmouthshire (William's father is currently unknown)

Her parents were John Basham Born 1784 Haverhill, Suffolk Died 1836 Dullingham and Mary Stubbings Born 1784 Died 1837 also in Dullingham.

Hester's siblings were Joseph born 1814 Dullingham Died 1897 Dullingham (Joseph married Louisa Sealey born 1812 died 1879 and Hester was living with them in 1841),
Mary Basham born 1816 Wratting Lt, St Mary and died 1835 Dullingham,
Thomas born 1818 Great Thurlow,
William born 1820 Great Thurlow,
Samuel Born 1822 Great Thurlow and

TIA

William, son of Hester at some point applied to The Vicarage at Dullingham to get a copy of his baptism for some reason for which he had to pay 3 shillings and seven pence. I can only make out 27/11 so don't know what year it was. The comments from The Vicarage says, copy of register, which is four years earlier than you thought, so maybe William was unsure how old he actually was. At age 9 he is living with his Mother's brother and sisters. He was baptised 13/5/1832.

Thanks for the reply Paco, that's very interesting,
I have William as Baptised on 13 May 1832.

William signed a British Civil Service Evidence Of Age on 10 December 1866 in Rochester confirming his birth date as 17 March 1832 so maybe this is why William contacted the vicarage for his information (I used this for his birth date in the absence of any actual birth record and now that seems in doubt).

He was discharged from the army on 21 Nov 1849 and by 1871 was living in Dorchester with his wife and 5 children and employed as a labourer. So my guess is that he may have needed the birth / baptism record for his discharge to be completed

Your comment about William's age being 4 years earlier than 1832 has hit a chord as his death certificate gives his birth year as 1825 and the 1891 census as 1826 (previous census say 1832), so maybe I need to look further as on FindMyPast the only William Basham that I see was born in 1826 has a mother called Tabita (not Hester)
The mystery continues!!

If it was 4 years earlier than he thought, then he must have thought he was born in 1836 I would think. However being discharged in 1849 as you state, he would only have been 17 years old, which doesn't seem right some how.
