got sidetracked but have now found them on a passenger list returning to the UK
I assume you either have a sub to ancestry or access via your local library to see the images on the following links

SS Germanic arrived Liverpool 14 June 1901 from New York (via Queenstown)
First page of passenger list (image 145 of 336 on film strip under the image)

Last page of passenger list (image 152 of 336 on film strip under the image) master signed on 14 Jun 1901.

and entry for Bridget McLaughlin (a servant) and Pat McLaughlin (a labourer) both Irish shows they were landed at Liverpool

They may have then travelled to Glasgow by steamer.
This was in the Liverpool Daily Post 21 June 1901 and gives an idea of the 'ordinary' fare in steerage (the cheapest option) for a single trip as 5s 6d, so 11 shillings in total for the two of them.

Thank you, though this has been a joint effort, the other posts in both your threads enabled me to find them returning. Everyone contributed something for others to build on.

The search was not helped by the transcription having 'Cat' rather than Pat ( I've added an alternate on Ancestry and in the fullness of time it may filter through to the search
 Bridget's first name was on the passenger list as 'Bridg' - and correctly transcribed as such, so that is where using wild cards e.g. Brid* can often bring up a correct result.
