That extra number is still throwing me!  Thanks for looking, Chris.

Dave, the third number in the reference should be 6 for E.D. 11 - 14 and 7 for E.D. 15 - 18.

There was a 10 year-old George Saunders at Gatehouse Lane, Buxted in 1841.  I found him on http://thesussexweald.org/a20.asp, which is a very interesting and useful site.

Dave and Chris,

According to this site:

http://parkesfamily.org.uk/Saunders%20Census.xls

There is a family in 1841 Mayfield which corresponds to the one Dave is looking for.  The reference is HO107/1116/7/22.  I only have Enumeration Districts from 15 - 18 under '7'.  Plus another family at HO107/1116/7/33!

Gentleman?! :o

Well I never!

The Buxted link looks interesting, being only 5.9 miles from Mayfield. I'll have to take a look - and at the Parkes link also.

Many Thanks again - KR Dave (Gentleman ;D)

Deborah - Mystery solved!  The references to "22" and "33" turn out to be references to the folio number, not the enumeration district.  We do actually have the following family in Mayfield in 1841:

HO 107 1116 book 7 folio 22
Colkins Mill Street
James Saunders, 40, ag lab
Mary, 35
Ann, 17
Frances, 15
James, 13
Jane, 11
George, 9
Sarah, 7
Mary, 3
William, 1
All born in county

Dave - The IGI member submission for George Saunders does appear on BIVRI as a bona fide controlled extraction (FHL Film 1067250) but with dob simply "1834".  (This seems to be wrong)

All the above children (except Ann) appear on BIVRI too, plus three other later sons - Thomas Edwin, David and Henry.  The marriage of James and Mary also features on the same film:

James Saunders m. Mary Hesman on 31 May 1823 at Mayfield, Sussex.

Do you want the data for the other children as well?

Cheers

Dave

You might want to try this link too:

http://semain.com/tree/54.htm

It seems you can trace Mary He(a)sman's ancestry back a fair distance if you start with her daughter, Frances Saunders.

Here I am at last!  I've had problems with disc 3 - what they were I haven't a clue (message something about volume and flushing and don't do it again...) - but seems to have righted itself.

I've now had a look at Schedule 22:  My goodness! - even knowing the surname is Saunders, I still have problems reading it.  Thanks Dave F :-* - this looks like the family Dave M was looking for.

I have absolutely no excuse for missing the other family (Joseph, Agnes and Naomi) who comprised a separate household but were in the same building as Robert to Alfred in Under Road to Mayfield (Schedule 33, Page 8 ).

Good luck with your researches, Daves both.
