All very interesting, but I just have a nagging feeling - not that I can find any proof - that he either died in infancy or followed his brother into the military. His elder brother John apparently served with the military attached to the East India Company.

I think we may be able to rule out this William. In 1851 Temperance is at Sergeants Inn, Extra Parochial, Saint Dunstan-In-The-West, West London (City of London), London & Middlesex, England, next door are

Jane   Daniel   Head   Widow   Female   67   1784   House keeper   Woodford, Essex, England
Jane   Daniel   Daughter   Unmarried   Female   29   1822   Dress maker   Shoreditch, Middlesex, England
Orsband   Daniel   Son   Unmarried   Male   26   1825   Barristers clerk   Shoreditch, Middlesex, England

A William Daniels baptised 25th February 1824 St Dunstans, parents William & Jane.
