I am looking for Owen Oswell (Ozwell)
on the 1861, 1871 and 1881.
He was born about 1822. Father William and Mother Mary. He was born in Charlbury Oxfordshire.

He is on the 1891 with his wife Eliza
and on the 1891 with his wife Eliza.

They lived at 50 and 47 Sheep Street respectively,
Charlbury Oxfordshire

Ah yes, it is possible, but I don't know really, as I have not come across another name for him, but as you say, the details matched.

Hello, Gillian,

Let's not dismiss Jeanette's findings out of hand because the one common factor is Eliza with the correct details. I think her findings are correct because this ties up with what I have found in 1881.
Nothing is ever as it seems in this game. Cobble together 1881 and 1871 and I think you have your people.

1881 census

Owen Oswald Age age 58 born Charlbury Oxfordshire Cab Proprietor
Eliza Wife Age 52 born Charlbury Oxfordshire
Sarah Claydon Step Dau(?) - this bit not clear Laundress  Born 1849 Charlbury
George Claydon Visitor born Charlbury Age 10

This is the same couple as on 1871 except he prefers the name George. Occupation on 1871 is also Cab Proprietor employing two men.

Oswald can easily be misheard for Oswell. He may have been named Owen George or George Owen or just got fed up of being Owen. Who knows.

Don't know about Jeanette but not having any luck on 1861. Bit of a difficult family - especially if they keep changing heir name.

Do you know if they had any children?

Just had a thought - bearing in mind that in 1881 there appears to be a step daughter recorded then presumably Eliza was married previously. There is no Eliza Oswell on 1861 but there is a widowed Eliza Claydon who may just be her.
I'll post the details just in case.
