William Llewelyn - A “gentleman farmer” in Carmarthen (1861)?
« on: Sunday 18 September 05 19:50 BST (UK) »
William Llewelyn was the father of the Rev David Jones Llewelyn and according to his marriage certificate (9/9/1884), his father was a "Gentleman Farmer".  Yet I can find no trace of William’s existence.

I can find David Llewelyn in 1871, aged 13, living according to his daughter with his Aunt Mary Llewelyn a shoemaker’s widow, in Llandebie the place of his birth. However his mother was also supposed to be called Mary which adds a little confusion.

The request is to find any records pre 1871 of either David Jones Llewelyn as a child or baby, or more useful. William and Mary his parents.

Many thanks   David Llewelyn  ( DJL’s great granson)

Tricia, this looks as if you are on the right track.  Certainly David's dates seem more or less Ok, Mary is right and Head Farmer is correct - but no William  - perhaps he missed that name out on the census form.  I knew nothing about Hannah.

Does anyone else know anything about this?  or their farm address?

David

Hi Tricia,
Couldn't resist having a peek at the census image...I think the address is "Nant y Crigle" or "Nant y Crugle" (though there does appear to be a dot over the "i" in "Crigle".  That last word doesn't seem to be very Welsh, though  :-\
Don't know whether that is any help or not!!

Hi There,
It's Nantycreigle Farm where my ancestors lived in Glanamman. It's still there today. There are a few of us who have researched this clan of the Llewelyn's quite extensively if you need some help.
Kind Regards,
Steve Llewelyn

Do you have the actual marriage certificate or just the transcription?
Annie Kershaw' father was William could it be a transcription error.
