Hi Sinclair

Sounds possible to me, but I should imagine those births would still be found in the GRO Indexes.

If you think the birth might have taken place out of this country then overseas births can be searched on 1837online.

As James Ogle stated on his war records that he was born in Glasgow have you tried searching ScotlandsPeople ?

Hi Helen,
I have been to the registry office in Edinburgh and Glasgow several times over the last two years and no sign of any Redpath BMD`s apart from the ones I already know!
And I did search 1837 online.
You can seewhy I am stumped.
I am now looking at Irish records even though this is a very outside chance.

Hi Sinclair

OK, I've no experience of Irish records, so couldn't help you there.

I still feel that it would be useful if you could confirm or not that the John and Mary Ann Redpath in the 1871 above is your family, by applying for one of the children's birth certificates.

If nothing else it could indicate that James Ogle was born after April 1871.  Just a thought.

Sinclair - did the marriage certificate of James Redpath state whether his father was deceased?

A Mary Ann Redpath gave birth to a female child in Berwick Workhouse on 1st October 1874. The child was legitimate, but was Mary Ann in difficulties because of the death of her husband, or other family problems? There is no record of another child born to her in the Workhouse.

There is a death also in the Workhouse records of a Mary Ann Redpath, aged 67, 27th October 1909.

Maya,
Both parents of James were alive in 1893.

Ogle Wait Redpath

Unbelievable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recently Ive been chatting to my father about the history of our family " Redpath " and Ogle Wait Redpath was his grandfather. They lived in Widdrington and I believe he was a boxer, or had boxed at some level. He was alive up until my father was around 16, approx 1958. Heard he was a great bloke. I believe he was born in Glasgow. These details may be a little off, but shouldn't be to far away from the correct details.

Hi Geordiejoker

Welcome to Rootschat.

We heard no more from sinclair about the REDPATH's - shame because it was quite interesting.

He/She also seems not to have accessed the site since January 06 - so you may have a long wait for a reply.

Nevertheless, nice to have you aboard!
