Dear helpers,
Ogle Wait may have been related but he is not my GGrandfather. I have checked.

He is James Ogle Redpath, his sons William Ogle Redpath definitely born 1898 and Joseph Ogle Redpath born 1906.

He seems to have held the name Ogle in high regard as he and his sons made use of it all their life.

The main reason he altered his age was to make sure he could fight for his country.

Then in later years, he was left with his grandchild to bring up as her parents died when she was a child. He had to ensure he got paid employment.

I will follow up the census  but it makes things even more confusing!!!!!
However, having new thinking does widen my outlook.

Hi

There's also a birth registration in Berwick in Sep 1895 for an Ogle Wait Redpath - could he also be a son of James ?

Helen,
Sounds daft,but I didn`t consider that! As I said a new approach------.
I will send off for the certificate to see if the parent are James R and Helen Orr.

However,that still brings me no nearer to James birth date .

Maya ,
The family you found on the 1901 census is not the one I seek.
My James was in the Boer War, his wife was Helen Orr, and his son William born 1898,recorded in Newcastle returns for 69 Barrington Street.
Thanks, now I do not have to get the certificate.

I think Myra was showing you that the Ogle born 1895 wasn't a son of James as I suggested he might be - therefore saving you the cost of sending for that birth certificate.

I have known people missing on one census, either through being mistranscribed or missed out for some reason. But not on three out of four ???

Just to add to the pot -

The 'Ogle Wait' on the 1901 census is also on the IGI, born, 2 July 1895 Tweedmouth, died 13 September 1965

Father = William Redpath
Mother = Jane Leonora Proudman.

That could tie William in to being the William on the 1871 census and possibly James' brother, and the family to the 1901 census entry with 'Jane' as the head.

Dear All,
I had another thought regarding the 1906 birth of Joseph Redpath, parents James Redpath and Helen Orr.
As James had been in the Army maybe it was a Barracks birth record.
Does this sound like a possibility?
