help from friends
« on: Wednesday 21 September 05 15:35 BST (UK) »
hi, i am tracing my g'mmother, Elizabeth Ther dob 1879 where? she married Ernest Winfield 3-8-1912 in the parish of  Hyson Green Nottingham, her father was Charles Ther. I cannot find an Elizabeth but a  Lily born to Charles Ther and Catherine Ther nee Needham abt 1879 at Radford. Is the Lily my Elizabeth?
Also i,m having problems find Ernest's father, the marriage cert states his father was Thomas Winfield but i can only find a Silas Winfield who had a son Ernest abt 1889 which is the year Ernest was born.
Elizabeth Winfield nee Ther died Nov 1934 aged 55yrs and Ernest died 8-11-1962 aged 72. Any help appreciated.

Hi again  ;D

What job did Thomas Winfield do? And who were the witnesses on their marriage certificate(often one or more are family members)

I may have found a family in Yorkshire in 1891 who fit the bill.
Ernest's age is a little out,but maybe by the time he died in 1962,they had forgotten exactly which year he was born  ;)

Regards

Carol

Hi to Carol and Jane, Elizabeth Ther in 1901 census is 34yrs, too old to be my g'mother (married 1912- 32yrs old ) + she was working as a servant in London. Also in the same census shows a Winfield family in Ilkeston with Silas as head, Eliza wife and Ernest as 2nd son aged 13 which tallies with g'dads dob 1889. As regards the marriage cert it shows Thomas as the father and he was a  miner, the witnesses are someone called  2nd name Meakin and an Ada Ann Purdey. I've not been re-searching for long, do you think i should finish now while i've still got my sanity? ;D

Hi

No you should not give up. This is a great hobby even though it drives you to despair at times it also gives great satisfaction when you get somewhere.

One point if you are looking in Ilkeston you need the Derbyshire board as it is just over the border and will be on the Derbys BMD CDs.

1901 census

Elizabeth Thur born 1879 Nottinghamshire is a Boarder in the household of James Adkin and family. She is a Lace Mender, unmarried, living at 15 Poplar Square, Nottingham. She appears to have a 2 month old daughter called Gertrude Thur

RG13/3169 Nottingham Folio 137 Page 11

I can trace this lady on the 1891 where mum is widowed and then the same family back to 1881 where mum is married to a Chas Thur.  Would you like me to post all this
