Arthur Dawson - York
« on: Thursday 22 September 05 12:01 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Trying to find info on where Arthur Dawson moved his shop to (as shown below) from St Helen's Sq,York when W.P.Brown took over all the shops.

Arthur Dawson was married to Jane Elizabeth Fattorini in 1866 and there was 12 children.

I would be interested in any connections.

Hi Trevor

Have you found the family in the 1901 census?

They seem to be living at 1 Wilsons Crescent in York, but I've no idea whether that is separate premises from his business.

Best wishes

Hi Ticker,

Thanks for your query, yes I have the family on the 1901 census, as you say about the address its hard to say wether or not this is the house and shop together.

I can't find Wilsons Crescent on a map to decide if its in a commercial area - does anyone know where it was?

Hi Ticker,

Have rechecked the 1901 census and the address is 1 WILTON Cres (not Wilson) and is between Howard St & Havelock Terr, just off the Fulford Rd near to York Cemetery.

Thanks for your efforts

Hi Ticker,

I think it could also be the house as well.

Pretty well near to the two Army Barracks as well so plenty of business ;D
