Carole,

Have you checked the marriages on the Lancashire BMD site:
http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

I did a Soundex search on W. Adamson and got some interesting hits for Williiam H. Adamson, plus a William H. ADANISON,  which might be a typo.  (You could do a cross-check on FreeBMD.)

Good luck!

Regards,
Josephine

Here's a possible child for your William - might be a bit early though if he was still in England in 1881.

040882-82 (Toronto) ADAMSON, Edwin Harold, m, b. Feb. 26, 1882, father – William Henry ADAMSON, illegible, mother – Alice CORBETT, infm – W. H. Adamson, Morris St

(The "illegible" after his name refers to his occupation)

This is from the Ontario equivalent of freeBMD (ie: volunteer transcriptions, not yet complete).  http://www.rootsweb.com/~onvsr/

Do you have any more details on William yet?  Do you know if he was married?  There was a William Henry Adamson married in the Bury reg. District in the March quarter of 1881 on freebmd.  Candidates for spouses on the same page are Mary Jane BARLOW and Mary Ellen BARLOW.  (sisters?)

If you're still looking for help on this guy, post an update on what info you have and someone might be able to find more.

Good luck!

Martha

MJP's entry matches the 1901 census...with the mother in law's name and several other entries for children( although child is now called Harold)....plus a domestic.

Wow, you guys are ahead of the game!

I'll do my research re the marriages etc and will post what I find. Wiliam is a new discovery for me - the family tree alweays said his parents had four children - I've recently found another four (!) so am breaking in new ground every day.

Regards

Carole

As you probably know, BMD has 2 William Henry born your date....

Census are not always accurate, either, as my GrGrandfather
had MANY years taken off his age...8 to be exact....and to be
out a few years has not been unusual for many.

Good luck with your search. Let us know how you are doing!

I am pretty sure that York is a section of Toronto...so that is why I gave you
that one....Someone in Ontario will let you know for sure when they see this...
I added the word Toronto to the topic for when it comes up in the thread...

You're right JJ -- Etobicoke (where this person was living) is a suburb of Toronto, which is in York County :)

You are becoming an Ontario Genealogy Guru...Sometimes I just put my 2 cents worth in to keep the thread alive for that request....some poor notes just sit there....J.J.

... and I appreciate all the assistance I am getting. So far, I can't link 'my' William to Toronto, but over the next few weeks will try and do so - thanks for all your help, everyone.
