Parents Look Up please
« on: Saturday 24 September 05 11:01 BST (UK) »
I have come to a possible halt in my Parsons tree.

I have John PARSONS(1830) and his siblings, George(1823),Thomas(1826),James(1827),Mary(1835) and William (1838). All living at one time or another with each other in Holwell farming in that area with several relatives.
John married Johanna Wilshire REEKS, niece of Sarah Ryall of caundle bishop.

I think that John's parents were James PARSONS and Harriet STRONG married july 5 1819 Melbury Sampford.

Is there anyone out there that can confirm this for me and possibly confirm who Johanna REEKS parents were. I have been advised that she was base born but her entry in the family bible says her mother was Mary Ann REEKS but her father was WILLIAM REEKS.

I am very near to being utterly confused, i would be grateful of any help.

Marriage
March 1866
Sherborne
5a 573
Joanna Reeks
John Parsons
(or Frederick Bennett)

The certificate should mention the father (or not!)

IGI has an extracted christening record  - probably what you were referring to :
Johannah Reeks
Christening:  24 OCT 1830   Fifehead-Neville, Dorset, England
Mother:  Mary Ann Reeks

Ever wondered where the 'Wiltshire' came from?

Tanja,

Yes I had wondered where the Wilshire name came from. After some investigation and trawling through Ancestry I found a Wilshire family in Fifehead Neville.

On the momumental inscriptions I found Alice Goodfellow Wilshire buried 21 june 1889 daughter of John and Mary Jane Wilshire of Fifehead Neville. They are also buried with their daughter John in 1930 aged 91 and Mary Jane in 1909 aged 57.

The Goodfelow in Alice's name I think comes from my Mary Ann Reeks who then married a  Goodfellow. She had Wilshire in Johanna's name and they in turn used her married name in their daughter's name.

I can only conclude they were good friends.

thanks

caroline
