Lorraine

Had a quick look and I have found 45 Scurrs on the 1881 census in this area (Cumberland) alone, I am going to have a look in the other censuses

Do you have any dates or places for your father's father

To Lorraine

George SKURR married Mahala Simmons 31 jan 1919, Battle Sussex. His birth was registered as SCURR, but the two spellings are the same name but the "K" is perculiar to Cumberland.
He was born 4 Oct 1888, son of George SCURR & Mary Dixon. In 1891 the family were in St. Bees. George SCURR (Snr) was born in 1842, Dacre Cumberland & Mary Dixon c. 1852 Bolton Parish, Westmorland.
George (born 1842) was the son of John SKURR & Mary Cowman.

John & Mary had another son John SKURR born 1836, Dacre who married Mary Watson in 1865, their first child Mary Jane was born in 1867 in New Zealand.

I have quite a lot more on this family, some my own research some passed to me by members of your family in about 1991.
