John Warr & family 1851 (swalcliffe)
« on: Monday 26 September 05 00:25 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

This is the first time I've used the boards for anywhere outside of London, so sorry if I misspell any name places  ::)

I'm looking for John WARR (b. 1829, Twyford, Bucks) and his wife Rachel (nee GARDNER- born c.1829 in Swalcliffe, Ox). They had thier first child in 1850 (Swalcliffe) and named him Richard (WARR). They then moved to London some time after the birth of thier 2nd child in c.1853. I would love to be able to get the census ref. details for them in the 1851 census returns. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Karen  :)

Hi Karen
I have just checked the 1851 census (Swalcliffe) but there is no sign of a WARR family. The images are quite clear so I don't think I could have missed them (only 367 individuals listed).
Also checked the neighbouring hamlets of Tadmarton,Sibford & Epwell but no luck.
Let me know if there are other areas of Oxon you would like checked.

Hi,

Thanks for trying  :). I'll have to get back to you with any other areas they may have been in  ???.
Any chance you could have a look for Rachel WARR's family. I know her father's name was Richard GARDNER b. c1800 (I also know that he was still in Swalcliffe in the 1881 census as a widower). I also know that she had at least 2 sisters named Rhoda and Harriet. As far as I know his wife's name was Hannah GARDNER nee BRAIN.
If you don't have time, no worries, but could you let me know? Thanks in advance.

Karen

Hi Karen
I have had better luck with Rachel's parents:
In Swalcliffe I have -
Richard Gardner Head age 51 Labourer born Swalcliffe
Hannah wife age 51 born Dunstew
George son age 12 Ag Labourer born Swalcliffe

living in the next property is:
Martin Gardner Head age 27 Receiving Parish relief
Mary wife age 28
Ann daughter age 4

also living in the village were:

Dick Gardner Head age 39 Labourer
Mary wife age 25

I had a look in Dunstew and found following:

John Brain Head age 54 Cordwainer
Elizabeth wife age 54
Edward grandchild age 14 Cordwainer

Still no sign of the WARR family.

Hi Karen

Sorry, should have given the info earlier:
The first 2 Gardner are in HO 107/1733/294
The 3rd in HO 107/1733/296

Addresses are only shown as 'Swalcliffe'

John Brain is in HO 107/1730/146; unfortunately once again no address given.
