Hi,

I have a John Hunt Born 1808 in Horley. I am trying to find his birth and possibly find out who his parents were.

He married Olivia Croft in Foleshill Warwickshire in 1826.

Regards
Margaret (New Zealand)

Hello

Horley in which county?

A marriage certificate will give fathers names and occupation as well as witnesses.

Hello Margaret,

Oxfordshire can be a bit of a problem to find information. This is the best place to start at your distance [NZ] http://searches.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/
I have used it it is fairly cheap (Requests for Search Services should be emailed to: searches@ofhs.org.uk or may be sent by post to Dr Alan Simpson at the address given above. - you can pay online.)

The society URL is; http://www.ofhs.org.uk/

If you look at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyOxford.htm#PageTitle you will get the parishes covered on the IGI unfortunately Horley is not included so Dr Alan Simpson above is the best person to address your concerns about marriages and births in Horley, Oxon pre 1837.

If you can find that you ancester had lived elsewhere then the IGI is free.

You may also like to download a free program called Parloc to find out which are the neighbouring parishes on http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html it is well worth it.
