1851 Census - Surfleet/Gosberton - Susan CHRISTIAN
« on: Monday 26 September 05 16:54 BST (UK) »
Could I please request a lookup for my ancestor in the 1851 census of Surfleet, or possibly nearby Gosberton:-

Susan(nah) CHRISTIAN, widow around 48 years old, believed born in Pointon.

Hopefully she will have a couple of children in her household. They were farmers around Surfleet, but the father died in 1850, and the family had scattered back to the Pointon area by 1861. I would like to try to account for all of her younger children.

Thank you very much for any assistance.

All the best,

Marc

Sorry, I couldn't spot her.  There were only 3 CHRISTIANs in the Boston district.

I see that a Mr CHRISTIAN (I've forgotten his name) was buried in Sempringham in 1850 aged 55, so I looked there and indeed all through the CHRISTIAN entries in the Bourn district, without success.

It is rumoured that Ancestry will have the 1851 census online, perhaps this week, then someone should be able to find her for you.

Thank you both very much indeed. I'm not sure whether it is reasonable to assume that the family was still at the same location (Hammond Beck Bank) despite the different location names (Surfleet in 1841, and Pinchbeck in 1851). But I guess they hadn't moved too far away.

I'm pretty sure Susannah was not an accountant :-)
I wonder whether it may have been "annuitant". Her husband William was recently deceased and she may have received some kind of benefit from his will. Just guessing here. In 1861 she was described as a charwoman and was working as a servant for an elderly farmer near Pointon.

Thanks again for the terrific assistance.

All the best,
