RUTHERFORDs in Herefordshire 1820's

Hi All,

My Great-Great-Grandfather was Richard Hopwood RUTHERFORD. According to the birth entries for his children, he was  born in Hereford(shire) around 1827/1828.

I have no idea when he left England, but he apparently married Mary DOCHERTY in Dunedin, NZ in 1861.

They emigrated to Australia soon after and lived in the goldfields of Victoria.

I have been unable to find any evidence of a RUTHERFORD presence in Herefordshire in the first half of the 1800's. Is anybody able to help me find out any more about Richard's early life?

Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

There's a Rutherford mentioned here in Pigot's 1830 Directory.
