Hi, do you know where Harriet was born? What exactly is it you want to find out? Do you want details of when she was Whimpey or when she was Clark? Kate.

In the 1881 Census Harriet Clark(e) is living at Himalaya Range, Bedwellty. She is listed as born Pontypool, Mon. about 1839. I found her marriage to Frederick Clarke at Clifton June qtr 1868, where she is Harriet Whimpey. I want to find out more about both her and Frederick's families. I believe Frederick Clarke was from Rowberrow, Som.

The only whimpey/Wimpey family with a Harriet I could find on the 51 and 61 census's for both England and Wales was this one in the 51

James Wimpey widow c1801 a wheel wright born Frome, Somerset
George c1834 born Frome, Somerset
Mariah c1832 a cloth ?worker/weaver born Frome
Harriet born 1838 born Frome

all living in Frome in the 51. I will have another look and will also look at the 41 census to see if they are there. All the best, Kate.

I've found the Whimpey family above in the 41, its the only family in England and Wales with a Harriett.

James Whimpey 40 a wheelwright
George 8
Harriet 35
Eliza 14
Maria 12
Harriet 2

all born in county, living in Lower Keyford, Frome, Somerset.

Its strange that George is listed 2nd on the census page, this was the case in the 51 census, all boys together I guess.
I've also found James father living in Lower Keyford also

James Whimpey 65 farmer
Mary 65
Mary 15 a milk worker

I'm thinking that maybe Mary is James daughter and went to work on her grandparents farm.

I hope this is of use to you and I'm not leading you on a wild goose chase. All the best, Kate.

Thanks for that, Kate. It makes more sense than Harriet born in Pontypool. An enumerator error, perhaps? I'm hoping to find out more when I get a copy of the marriage cert. I'll let you know what I find!
I see that one of your name interests is Israel. There were a few of them in Rhymney in the 1900's. My grandma was presented with a Sunday School prize by a Mrs. Israel. I was also in school at the same time as a Judith Israel, she was from the Blackwood area I think. All the Best from a very soggy Brisbane .

Raining in Brisbane! Interesting about the Israel's, as I thought mine were the only one's in Monmouthshire and they were centred mainly around Newport and Blaenavon, but I guess that means they may be a branch off mine. Do let me know how you get on. All the best from a very snowy UK, Kate.
