Hi debbie,,   John Mcclure here from southern California.

I have tracked my Mclure's  to the 1841 census in Druinfern

they are

Niel Maclure or McLure
dob abt 1790 druinfern
married
Margarat Mcgilvray
dob abt 1790 druinfern

thru their son Donald
dob 5-18-1824 Druinfern

Donald and what I think are his two cousins Hugh MacLure or Mclure  and  Archibald immigrated on the ship Iowa arriving in New York under the name McClure -  on August 16,1850.  Donald went on to Indiana where he married my great grandmother Mary Meck.  we found both Hugh and Archibald living in Ontario Canada along with many other McLure's / Mcclure's.  would like to compare records with you.

Regards   John Mcclure

Hello John,

I'm also descended from William McLure. My grandmother was daughter Sarah McLure married to Thomas Watson.

Welcome to Roots. Aren't they just great bunch.

Hi Mo.     How does you'r William fit in to my Niel?  My g -grandfather Donald had a daughter Susanna , son George William , daughter Mary, daughter Isabella Jane (Jennie), and my grandfather John Edward who was called (Ed).  Donald's head stone lists his name as Daniel (Which he was referred to after his marriage) (Donald at the  time of his marriage)  but the head stone lists
Daniel W. which we have presumed stands for WILLIAM.  Yes this is a great site.  I've been looking for my scottish ancesters for over 15 years now.  Just recently was able to trace to Niel and Margaret.

John

Hi John,

Haven't had the info through from Debbie yet, she'll still be in bed (ssssh) but we all have the same ggg grandparents. Roseann and Helen also come in about the same time. I am hoping to get to Canada this year and meet them and also get back up to Scotland sometime to meet Roseann. I am down south of UK in Hampshire, England.

Scotlandspeople is great site but its costly and as you say time consumpting.

Hi John,

Sunday morning here on the West Coast!  I'm up!

I have your Neil McLure and Margaret MacGillivray in my files.  I don't have a connection between our families confirmed, but I suspect that Neil may have been a brother or a cousin to my Malcolm McLure born abt. 1772.

I don't have the parentage of your Neil, as the parish registers for Sleat don't begin until abt 1818.  So all the early data I have gathered is through purchasing copious amounts of McLure death certificates!

Your Neil married twice - both times to a Margaret MacGillivray.  The 1st Margaret - your ancestor - died before 1838., she had 10 children with Neil.
The 2nd Margaret  married Neil on  Jan 15 1838, and they had two more children together.  Margaret #2 died April 20, 1874 at Camuscross.

I have been in contact with 2 people researching the same line as you.  David McClure, who still lives in Sleat, although he may have moved as his email is bouncing, and Ross Hunter who lives in England.

My hubby and I met David the last time we were over in Skye.

I have about 15 pages of stuff on your line, all on the Scottish side - I don't have anything on the emigrants to Canada or the US.

If you PM me your home email address, I will send it to you.

Hi Debbie in Vancouver.

Great day when I found you in google yesterday.  I,ve been working on tracking my McClure's for over 15 years and
getting nowhere untill the last month or so.

My e-mail is  (*)  I would love to compare our records.

I have thought the second marriage of Niel and Margaret was actually the marriage of Niel the son of Niel and Margaret .  ?????

I have the genealogy software "Family Tree"  which will make it easier if you also have it to transfer files.  Look forward to recieving your info.  Send me your e- mail and I will also send what I have put together.

Cuz.  John  In Sunny Los Angeles
