1851 Bassingbourn Census
« on: Saturday 01 October 05 21:57 BST (UK) »
I've just been on the Cambridge FHS website and found the following:

MARSHALL Ruth 63 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 233B
MARSHALL Thomas 41 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL Mary 36 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL William 14 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL Alfred 12 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL Thomas 10 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL Nancy 7 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL Stephen 5 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 269B
MARSHALL John 67 Bassingbourn HO107/1708 286A

If anybody has access to the actual census I am particularly interested in John and Ruth.  I have them on the 1841 together.  But looking at the folio numbers, they are not together on the 1851 and I would like to know what is going on.  Can anybody help?

Kind regards

KA

Frances,

Thanks for that.

Very interesting.  In the 1841 I have a John and Ruth Marshall together.  And John is down as not born in the county, which fits the 1851 gentleman.  But it looks as if there are two John Marshall's.  Not surprisingly with such a common name.

On the face of it I would say that Ruth is mine, and John has died, and the John on the 1851 isn't mine.

All very perplexing!

Many thanks for your help.

Thank you for all your help.

I have also found the following on the Cambs FHS 1851 website.

MARSHALL Lydia 29 Melbourn HO107/1707 170A

I think she is the same Lydia that married Thomas (so many Thomas's it gets confusing) in 1841.  However, again, she appears to be alone.  Any help on who she is with, etc., would be much appreciated.  Particularly her marital status.

Kind regards

KA

Hi KA,

It looks like Lydia is living with her family, I assume her maiden name was King? Maybe this will take you back another step? I hope so.

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Frances,

Many thanks.   You are indeed correct.  Lydia was 'King' before marriage.  That marriage didn't last long!  I must find Thomas' death cert now.

No, I don't have the christenings of the King Family.  Are they on the Cambs FHS web-site?

Kind regards
