Seckington 1851 & 1861 Loughton COMPLETE thank you
« on: Sunday 02 October 05 21:07 BST (UK) »
Could you please look up George Seckington in Loughton Bucks in 1851 and 1861.  He was born in 1811 in Loughton and should be  living with his wife Elizabeth, and at least two children  Martha (born 1840) and Edward (born 1838). They may of course be elsewhere by 1861.

Thank you

David

Hi Tazzie,

Thank you for looking.  Can you give me details of Sarah the nurse please.  I think she was George's mother who was alive in Loughton in 1871.

Thank you

Thank you Tazzie for the details of Sarah.  Despite the age being right i am not convinced that she is George's mother.  The "nu" is confusing, I suspect it should be "un" meaning unmarried where I was hoping it would  show her a widow. I also think my Sarah was actually born in Loughton, maiden name Turner.  She could well be a relative but I haven't managed to put all the Seckingtons together yet.

I don't know if your ancestors were local but nearly all my family came from what is now Milton Keynes.  Higgs, and Parcell from Loughton and Stony Stratford  and Buswell and Wilson from Stony Stratford, Wolverton and New Bradwell.

Thank you again

Hi David.

Nu for Sarah denotes -nurse- and yes she was a widow sorry missed that off. Loughton/ Shenley Church End and Shenley Brook End are all very very close so dont rule her out yet.How do the details tie in with those on th IGI?
I live in Shenley Brook End but come from Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire.
If you would like anymore info on the area please let me know. I am trying to get to the library myself so if you need anything in the records post details

Thank you again.  I used to know my way around the area but since they built Milton Keynes all the roads I knew no longer go anywhere.

I have concluded with help from a BMD search that George probably died in Sep1839 before the birth of Martha.  His wife Elizabeth probably remarried (James Fossey in 1844 is a possibility).  This still leaves me with the problem of what happened to Martha and Edward.  There was another Edward Norman Seckington born 1835 but I assumed that he died.  Norman was Elizabeth's maiden name.

Martha was certainly living in the Loughton area in 1865 when she married my great grandfather there.

Hi David

Heres another one to work on:

  1851 Loughton
James Fossey hd w 50 b Shenley Church End lab
   Martha            dl  11 b Loughton
Emma Fossey  da 6 b Loughton
Samuel Fossey so 3 b Loughton
Martha Mackness 28 b Shenley Church End housekeeper.

No surname is given for Martha and dl probably means daughter in law OR as we would now say step daughter.

This would mean Elizabeth died 1848-1851.
   Could not find second Edward.
