Fantastic...thanks a million. Unfortunately I haven't been able to locate them in 1881 or 1891. I do know he went to America in 1891 (Oct 7 to 20) for an Ecumenical Methodist Conference and also sent a postcard from Niagara Falls in 1880. He was living in Glasgow for many years but may have stayed in Stockport whilst contesting the seat in 1900. Not bad for a cotton weaver eh? Jim

I think I may have found him in Kings Norton Worcestershire in 1891.
I'm puzzling over the handwriting.
Reference is RG12/2351 Folio 56 p. 33
with mother in law and niece named Heywood!

All of his nieces and nephews...The children of Joseph Ramsdale (his best friend and brother in law), and his wife, Elizabeth Heywood (Jane's sister), had the middle name "Heywood" if that's any help...Jim

Thank you so much for that...it is the right family and there seems to be a party going on with nieces and mothers in law all at the same place at the same time...the writing is very poor so I will spend some time working it out...but thanks again...Jim
PS if Elizabeth Ramsdale was in this document...then she should be missing from the same census in her home town of Cardiff...I wonder if she was...Jim
