FULL AGE DEFINITION
« on: Tuesday 17 August 04 13:49 BST (UK) »
I wonder if someone could please tell me if 'Full Age' given on an 1844 marriage certificate refers to the person being over the age of 18 or over 21?

(I think this has been answered before but I cannot find under 'search' as I get pages and pages of messages with '..full' or ' full...' and of course even more pages and pages with 'age'.)

Would be a great help if someone could come up with the answer please.

Hi Marjorie,
The Family History Handbook states that Full age can mean 21 or over in the nineteenth century. Ages are not always correct they may have said 21 to avoid having parental permission. Hope this helps. Frances
