Hi Chris,

They are my Chapman's.

John the father and Benjamin the son.
The only problem remaining is an entry I have in my notes that says John's wife's name was Martha.
I have to find now if it's a transcript error or he married twice.

Thanks for the look up, greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Geoff

hi there Geoff

This might help

Licence for 2nd Marriage:
Location: Archdeaconry of Lewes Marriage Licence,  Date: 12 Mar 1825:
Groom: John CHAPMAN, widower
Bride: Martha ALDERTON, spinster St Michaels Lewes
Both of this Parish

2nd Marriage
Location: Lewes St. Michael, East Sussex,  Date: 13 Mar 1825:
Groom: John CHAPMAN, widower
Bride: Martha ALDERTON, spinster
Both of this parish, married by licence

Now all you have to do is find Mary's death sometime before 1825

Hope that helps

Hi Chris,

That's great work, thanks very much.

I did have the first marriage to Martha HAVENDEN.
Martha's last child born that I have was Mary 1816.
So her death would be somewhere between 1816 & 1825.

The second marriage I'm reasonably sure is correct.
The only problem is that in the "51 census his wife is named as Mary not Martha and she was born in Fletching,SSX

Thanks again
Geoff

The 1861 Census Warbleton, at Chapmans Town has

John H - Head age 75 a Retired Auctioneer born Salehurst

Mary - wife age 80 born Fletching

Sussann M Kimber - g.daughter 22 born Ringmer

RG9/569  Folio.101  p.3

Sussann transcribed as Kember, but looks to be Kimber on Image.

Hi Chris,

The inconsistencies in names & age of the wives in John 's family make me now wonder if there was a 3rd Mrs CHAPMAN.

Is it possible that John married again after the marriage to Martha ALDERTON had ended for some reason between 1825 & 1833?

The '41,'51 &'61 census all have his wife as Mary & in the latter two census's she's 5 years older than John.

Would you know of a location where I can purchase the parish records for Warbleton on Cd or Fiche ?

Cheers
Geoff
