10th HUSSARS in 1825
« on: Thursday 06 October 05 17:31 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Does anybody have any suggestions how or where I can find out if the 10th HUSSARS were serving in Ireland in 1825?

I am asking this because I believe that my ancestor WILLIAM RANDALL, who was a Troop Sargeant Major in the 10th HUSSARS, may have married and had a son WILLIAM JOHN RANDALL in Ireland in 1825.

Many, many thanks.

Brown (Bodham, Middlesbrough), Griffiths (Blaina, Stockton), Randall (Harmondsworth, Islington), Harland (Westminster, Richmond)

Hi druschki, the 10th Hussars are mentioned in the Times of Thursday January 6th 1825 as follows:

"MCRE ALARMS! - LORD VISCOUNT GORT - We have it on highly respectable authority, that this nobleman, with the most praiseworthy zeal for the peace of the country, patrolled for the distance of four or five miles in the neighbourhood of Gort, with a strong party of the 10th Hussars, on the ominous eve of last christmas day.......'Connaught Journal'

[Gort,County Galway]

hope this might help you
