Alves Parish Registers - Asher
« on: Saturday 08 October 05 18:25 BST (UK) »
Would appreciate look-up for Baptism of James Asher 20/03/1812 in Alves, parents Alexander and Katherine Asher.   Am particularly keen to confirm Alexander's occupation.   Was he a stonemason?

Many thanks.

Hello

you will be surprise to find a reply to your post the only thing is that I could not find was the birth that you asked for here is what I have found.

Alexander lawful son to Alexander Alexander Asher and Catherine Ross in Erneside was born on the 29 April and baptised on the 3rd May 1813.  Witnesses Alexander Rob and Alezander Macrae.

&

Catherine lawful daughter of Alexander Asher and Catherine Ross born 31 Decembere 1815 and baptised 5 January 1817 Witnesses James Asher in Wester Alves and Thomas Johnson in Erneside.

I could find no birth for James and the old records don't really give occupations but I hope that this helps you.

Heather

Hi

I'm trying to find an Isabel Asher, so that I can trace back the Hendrys.   Isabel Asher married George Hendry and they had a son Thomas Hendry b12.04.1824, christened 20.04.1824 in Forres.   I know of no other children.

Can anyone help please?

Hi Joan
I found a record of Isabel's Death. Posted on Aberdeen Board in your other thread
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,320256.msg2011836.html#msg2011836

There are several hundred Asher records held by LIBINDX http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp

Including an Alexander Asher born 1813. Possibly from the family posted by Heather above?

Hi Justin,
This may help.
At the baptism of Hugh Robb, son of William Robb, farmer in Kirkhill, Duffus, and his wife Margaret Asher on 16th. October 1812 the Witnesses were:-
"Hugh Asher junr Easterton, Hugh Asher at Geddes of Calder, Elspet Smith Wester Alves"
Easterton is about 2 miles north-east of Alves and about the same distance east of Kirkhill but I've no idea where Geddes of Calder is.
I am researching the family of this William Robb and would like to find out more about his wife Margaret Asher. LIBINDX has her dying age 70 in 1850 but nothing about her parentage. William Robb was born in Alves in 1775, son of James Rob and Isobel Man but it looks as though Margaret was from Duffus and unfortunately I understand that the Duffus Marriage Register for the years 1800 to 1821 is missing so I can't find their marriage.
If you can tell me more about her I would be most grateful. Was this Hugh Asher her father or her brother, do you know?
Regards, Alastair

Hi Alisair,         The nearest on SP (government records) is a Margaret Asher, b. 1790 in the parish of Duffus  to James Asher and Agnes Leal.     (They happen to be descendents of Ashers I researched extensively for a friend.)   Notes of ages on death certificates in those days could be approximate so she could have been 60 not 70.         Two Hughs;        Hugh Asher b. 1772, parish of Alves, to James Asher and Elizabeth McKay.
Hugh Asher, b.1779, parish of Alves, to James Asher and Janet Skeen.
     Hope this helps,       Mairi.
