Can't find the Phillips pre: 1881
« on: Thursday 13 October 05 20:16 BST (UK) »
Dear All;

Hoping for some advice in locating my Phillips family.

As per the 1881 UK census I have Elizabeth Wiseman (Phillips) born 1856.  All it states is she was born in Wales.

Living beside Elizabeth is her sister Sarah Bailey (Phillips), born approx. 1853-1854.  Again, all it states is she was born in Wales.

Elizabeth and Sarah's father is noted as being David Phillips and his occupation on Sarah's marriage cert. in 1878 was a Miller.

I have both Elizabeth and Sarah on the 1881, 1891 & 1901 census.

Any help is most appreciated.

Sincerely;
Cas

Dear Iria;

I have Sarah Phillips married in 1878 and in the 1881 UK Census, she is living with her husband George Bailey and daughter Lillie.  They are living at 12 Garnet St., Birkenhead, Cheshire.

Right next door on 12 Garnet St. is Elizabeth Phillips (sister to above).  Elizabeth is living with her husband William Wiseman.

I have no clue why Sarah and Elizabeth wouldn't show up on the 1871 census.

Again, I thank you for the information and your help.

Sincerely;
Cas

I haven't looked at the census records but would guess that 'Vion Cyssydle' is really Froncysllte which is just outside Llangollen - just in case you look for the birth certificates.

Out of interest the Froncysllte Male Voice choir is well known and very successful!

I only wish I could sing.

Best wishes

Thank you Peterej for the information you sent to me in regards to location.  This will certainly come in handy once I start my hunt for birth certificates.

not sure what Aquatash means but there is an aqueduct joining Froncysllte to near the main Llangollen road to Ruabon. It is used by canal barges and is quite famous locally and very pretty. You can actually walk across it. I am sure there will be information about it on the internet
