Mary Ann FRYER b. 1831 Boyle, Ireland
« on: Thursday 13 October 05 23:06 BST (UK) »
Having just discovered my 3 x gt grandmother was Irish, I suddenly find myself not able to progress any further.

I know she was born about 1831 in Boyle, Ireland. I have her in the UK census from 1851 onwards in various places but eventually settling in Liversedge, Yorkshire.

I also know from her second marriage that her father was called Michael and he was described as a stonemason.

Am I likely to find anything further on her from any Irish records? Any help, guidance or assistance would be greatfully received!

Thank you
Martin

Hello Martin,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
