Nixon family in Nawton & Marton
« on: Friday 14 October 05 09:30 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any info on the family of my grandmother.  I am trying to find Mary Ann Nixon, born about 1859 in Nawton.  She married William Simpson.  I believe Mary Ann's parents were Robert & Martha Nixon born abt. 1834.  Robert was possibly born in Marton and Martha in Farndale.  Any help would be fantastic.

Hi  :)

I can see the family in 1861 census, RG9/3639 66 14
and in 1871 with a grandfather Joseph Shaw RG10/4839 61 8

You may already have this - if not, please let me know.

Thanks for replying.  I have the 1881 census and 1891 census for William & Mary Simpson  and the 1861 census for Martha & Robert Nixon.  Would love the 1871 census.  Is Joseph Shaw the father of Martha Nixon?

Here's 1871, reference as above
Nawton Village
Robert Nixon, head, 38, Ag Lab, b. Marton Yorks
Martha, wife, 31, b. Farndale
Mary, dau, 12, scholar, b. Nawton
George, son, 10, scholar, b. do.
Robert, son, 8, scholar, b. do.
Joseph Shaw, grandfather, wid, 75, Formerly a farmer, b. Helmsley Yorks

I don't know who Joseph actually is.From what it says, he should be Robert's grandfather. He's already a widower in 1861, a servant Ag lab in Yorks Skiplam.
