FamilyTree Computer Program
« on: Saturday 15 October 05 11:13 BST (UK) »
Hi, please can anyone recommend to me a good FamilyTree Program to buy. I am looking for one that is as simple as possible to use and that I can maybe work out relationships between different ancestors on. Also please where is the best place to buy it?

Thanks

There are various discussions in Rootschat about computer software ..... there is no easy answer to what is best as it is very much an individual choice.

It is probably better to try demo's of the programs before making your final choice.

The one I use is Family Tree Maker version 10.  Works well for me as you input your details as male or female and photos and typing, or cut and paste notes.  It then works out the relationship of whoever you start from to everyone else in the tree by civil law and canon law.  Plays slide shows and you can export people from the tree as a gedcom.

Hi Kena

I too use 'Family Tree Maker' and have done from day one, but it really is a matter of personal choice - you might find the following link interesting though

Hi Kena

I started back in 1989 with 'Reunion' which I got on with very well. Over the years I have tried most of the other programmes, but have stuck with the updated version of 'Reunion' which is 'Generations' a totally british programme.

Although it draws good trees, I do not like them all that much, so use Family Tree Maker via a gedcom file to actually draw the tree.

Why dont I use Family Tree Maker for everthing, because I think their data entry is crap compared to 'Generation'

So, that is how I do my own Family Tree.

Why don't you download the free one from Family Search, it will do all you want it to, a very good one to use.

I use GenoPro, http://www.genopro.com

It can be used without registering although the only annoying feature I've found is that when you save your work for the first time each session you get a timed requester pop up asking you to register.
