Lisa
I've spotted James on 1891 as soldier in barracks at Alverstoke,  but not found him on 1901 - is he there ?
Also did James marry ? & if so - if you get his marriage certificate it MAY name his father

just a thought
 regards John

Ok,

James married in 1902 to Selina Bridgwater

On the marriage certificate it says.

Both living at 159 Marlborough Road, Oxford.

Alexander James Breakspear age 31 Bachelor, Labourer. Father Henry Breakspear. Deceased
and
Selina Bridgwater age 23 Spinster. Father Thomas Agsalon Bridgwater. Deceased

But Ann was not married Breakspear was her maiden name perhaps he put Henry so that people did not think badly of him.

We can not be sure that the James Breakspear with the clack is James especially as he seem to have been born in 1871 and so the solider on the 1891 may be the same James Breakspear.

Although the story goes that Ann had just seen James off at the train station as he was in the Army and then she returned to the fair where she was killed.

I have the report of her death if you want to see it send me a private message and I will send it too you.

Hope we can find james and Ann.

Lisa
