Ah, The old disguise it with special effects trick.

I did another trick, I used a gaussian blur with a 1.8 radius then ran OPTIPIX Refocus to sharpen it up a bit.

Hi all,

I have never seen stripes like that on any photograph of this age.  I would be really surprised if they are on the original; Annie, could you check that?  I'd be really interested to know!

My guess, if they're not on the original, is that the scanner somehow created the anomaly all by itself (bless it!)

No! - it looks like the ridges on fingernails .. that's the only way I can describe it!
very faint - but then it's over a hundred years old ....!!

It looks like it has some sort a cardboard backing. Maybe it had the ridges and being stored in an album brought the pattern through. Just a thought.
