Gray, Dundee

Hi, Wonder if anyone can help.
I'm trying to find any info on the Gray family who I believe were in Dundee around 1866.

Father Owen Gray occ shoemaker. Mother Catherine Rourke and Alice Gray born about 1866.

The only info I have is that Alice was married in1886 in Edinburgh and by this time Owen is deceased but Catherine is still alive.
Alice is listed as born Dundee on the 1891 census.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Hi Kev,

I can't find any of the family for certain on the 1881 census in Scotland.  There are two Owen Grays in Scotland but both unmarried.  One a mason and the other an iron moulder.  But there is a death recorded in 1884 of Owen Gray.  Any other snippets of info?

Thanks for looking, unfortunately none of these seem to match. The 1884 death record wasn't the one either. Never mind I'll try the Catherine Gray line to see if theres any luck, but this seems to be a very common name and may prove very time consuming and fruitless.
 Never mind it wont be the first time.

Dundee, Angus
Mother:  Catherine Rourk

Could this be the Alice you are looking for.  Perhaps Owen Gray and Catherine Rourke were not married, but Alice was using Gray as her surname

I think you might have something there. I hadn't thought about looking for Alice Rourk, this certainly seems to fit with the date so I'll see what the census has and try to pick up the trail from here.

Hi Keve,

Good idea to check the 1871 census. 

Also you could try eliminating any marriages you might find for an Alice Rourk (all spellings!).  May  not work, but it's always worth a try.
