Hello Pauline.  :)

I see you managed to answer your own post!  ;)

Newport had a mass influx of Irish as did other Welsh regions, also a lot of Irish who initally settled in Newport moved on to other regions of Wales to look for employment.

I also have Fitzgerald's born in Ireland but they settled in Swansea around 1850

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Jen  :)

Actaully I am still after the family in earlier census, mainly to see if any in-laws are around, so it's only a part-answer.

Merry Christmas.

Looking at the Gwent publications page; I see that about half of Newport is missing for 1861 anyway. I should have known.

Thanks,
Pauline

Hi Pauline, I can't find them in the 41' census, so looks like they were still in Ireland then, I shall have a look at the 51' now. Kate.

Hi again, I've found the 1871 entry, it says that the head of the household was a Daniel Fitzgerald not Dennis, is this correct? Kate.

Update on Mary.
Believed to have wed Robert McIntosh early 1880, Bristol registration district.  Then sailed with him to New York later that same year.
Widowed between 1910 and 1918, remarried 1918, died in 1938 NYC.

Catherine wed 3rd quarter of 1872 to Charles Brown (Woolwich,  London).
