I did recall seeing a parish map somewhere; I couldn't find it online, so I can only assume that I saw it at Rochdale's Touchstones (their local/family history place)

Should you need something checking try to let me know early next week, and if I get a loan car I'll tootle on down to Rochdale centre to check it out. The car is well overdue it's service poor thing, so I have to go over anyway.

I have the 1851 census for Ashton-U-Lyne showing Joseph Travis age 39 born Butterworth. So I am trying to establish which of the above is likely to be the correct one. After looking at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/Milnrow/#ChurchHistory
I am inclined to think it is
