1841 Census - Burslem Please
« on: Thursday 20 October 05 21:49 BST (UK) »
Hi

would be very grateful for a lookup of the following:

John Walker
Rachael Walker

in Burslem Staffordshire.  Possibly with their daughter Eliza / Elizabeth as she was born c1841.

John was born c1818 Burslem. Rachael lies about her age on every census and gives a different birthplace - so who knows! She possibly did not.

Thanks  Sue

Hi Suepip

thanks very much indeed - the family has been eluding me for a long long time and I can't believe I may have finally found them!  I haven't been able to find a marriage or Rachel's birth despite looking for 4 or 5 years.

I have Rachel's marriage certificate from her second marriage  - this gives her father's name as William.  So could I be very cheeky and ask for you to see if there is a William Dinning nearby?

He may be with a Rachel Dinning - there is an IGI for the baptism of a Rachel Dinning in 1824 in Wolverhampton with parents William & Rachel.  The date will only work if she was baptised late - so an 1841 of them in the same town would help prove it on way or the other.

Am off to try and find Eliza's BMD record!

Thanks again

Hi Alli

not at all - thanks very much for posting this.  This has been bugging me for years now so all info, whether it rules in or out, is gratefully received!

Hmmm Wolverhampton - it would fit with the baptism record and I suppose with rounding of ages Rachel could just about be the mother.  Or she could have the family trait of lying about her age - my Rachel does this with each and every census and occassion, sort of a Joan Collins of the 19th century.

I know that my Rachel's father was dead by 1858 (when she remarried again) & that he was a chairmaker - which would fit with wood turner and also the area.  John Walker her first husband (and my ggg grandfather) was also a wood turner.

Will try and track William & Rachel D on the 1851 census to see if it gives any additional information and to find birth places.

Thanks again

Just in case anyone links into this thread in the future, and for the sake of completeness, have managed to get a copy of the baptism record for Rachel Dinning in 1824.

She was baptised at age 7, and her parents were William & Rachael.  Her father's occupation was given as a chairmaker.

So looks like this is my Rachel and her parents.

Thanks again Suepip and Alli
