A bit of technical help please
« on: Sunday 23 October 05 18:58 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Can anyone tell me in photoshop ( and perhaps other progs) if you can Lasso an area - colour it - and for the same area alter with one of the other adjustments?

I seem to have to lasso the area again each time I want to alter it?

Hope that makes sense!

Cheers

Keith

Keith,

I tend to copy a selection to a new layer (look in the layer menu).
This means that it becomes a separate selection which you can apply endless adjustments to.

You can also throw it all away, if your changes  goes pear-shaped without affecting the original.

Easy
Go to selection and click on save selection, give your selection a name and click okay. Just for the hell of it try the same with several different selections and save them all with different names.
Now when you want any one of them, go to select - load selection and pick your choice from the drop down list.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the advise - but....

Being a bit thick here - done as you said  - have a new layer of just my selection - but how do I adjust that layer?

When I highlight it - where do I go to adjust the colour of my selection?

From your reply I think you have my query correct - just me!!  ;D

Cheers

Hi Denn,

Right - even I can do that!!  ;D ;D

Just tried it out on a quick photo - seems to do the job as I  wanted fine.

Sure Adrain's way works as well - but not for me at the moment!  ;D

Cheers

Keith

P.S. - I am reading through a tutorial of Photoshop - but only up to lesson 2!

Keith,

Once you have your selection on a new layer, click on the layer to make it the active one.

Thenyou can use any of the adjustments from the '
image - adjustments' menu. So you can change the colour balance and then the brightness/contrast, etc. There is no limit to how many changes you can make.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the explanation - I was not using the "image" tab at the top - now everthing works fine.

I knew there must be ways of doing this.

Will now be able to use this on MY OWN PHOTOS.

Cheers
