I cannot see any F A Prothers (or Prother) in any census 1851-1901
What time scale are we looking at?
What links him to Wales?
Might then have a few more ideas

Peter:

Many thanks for your reply.

When I posted above I was going by the name as impressed on his Queen's Sudan Medal.  Since then I have found out that his name was PROTHERO, and have acquired copies of his attestation papers and medal entitlement files.

The handwritten document for the medal appears to have an 's' at the end of the name, while the typewritten list shows it spelled correctly.

This is an error that was fairly common in those days, sad to say.

Again, thanks for offering your help.

Martin

Thanks for the clarification re name but I am unsure whether you are looking for further information.
If so it would be helpful to have christian names if possible plus approximate dates/ages plus any known counties etc

Hello Peter:

The URL below is for a write-up I did on Frederick Albert Prothers for the British Medal Forum.   The only thing that I have not been able to find on the web for him is his date of birth, which perhaps you may be able to help me with.

Of course, it would be a 'coup' for me to find his other medal entitlements.

Many thanks,

if you search on the freebmd site there is a Frederick Albert Prothero born in the Sep 1/4 1878 in the Brecknock district under ref 11b 109. You could obtain a copy birth certificate for £7.
