1861 & 71 Lookup - Completed
« on: Monday 02 October 06 07:25 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Having received such excellent help with my Dorman request I thought I'd try the Fenwicks next  ;)

Florence Fenwick Miller and Thomas Fenwick were witnesses to the marriage of Margaret Jane Dorman and Alfred Adams in Peckham, Surrey in October 1876.  I assume that both are related to Margaret as her mother and maybe her paternal grandmother were Fenwicks.

In Jun Q 1877 Florence married either John Looney or Frederick Alfred Ford.

I'm hoping one or other of them will show up in the 1861 or 1871 census so I can find their birthplace and parents names.

Thanks,

Jane

This article http://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.cgi?path=323111095424602
names  Florence's parents as John and Eleanor Miller, and states her birthdate as November 5 1854. All consistent with the 1861 census entry posted by Darcy.

Cool!   ;D

It must've been pretty unusual for a woman not to take her husband's name in 1877 - its not even that common today.  And it explains why I couldn't find her in 1881 - I was looking for Ford or Looney (doh! ::))!

Thanks!

Jane

Hi

In one article on Florence it mentions that at some stages of her childhood up to 5 cousins were living with her family.  Would someone please look up John & Eleanor in 1871 just in case any of my missing cousins show up?

Thanks, Jane

I haven't had any success in finding Florence in 1871.

The nearest possibility is a Florence A Miller born c1855 Kingsland Middlesex. A pupil at a school in Berkshire.

I can't find a Florence Miller born Stepney.
