Northampton Local Studies 4 months closure
« on: Sunday 12 December 10 21:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi All.

As of December 17th until April the Northampton Local Studies
area will be closed to the public as they are re-locating to another
area within the Northampton Library.

This will mean that many resources i.e: G.R.O., Newspapers, and
Parish Records will not be available for use.

Some items will be available at other branches though in the County.

The Local Studies staff will answer queries by e-mail and apologise
for the inconvience this 4 months closure may cause.

Hopefully this will be made a sticky so folk do not make un-neccesary
journeys to view resources .

Just to add.

The Reference Library on the 1st floor will also be closing for good
on December 24th 2010.

This means that the whole of the 1st floor will be un-available to
the general public and will be let out for hiring.

As all the books will not be able to be stored in the Library some
will be removed permanently.

The over worked staff will have to find the books folk want when
they visit the Library which means there will be a waiting time
for them to be issued to view.

Ancestry wil be available to folk to view, but the amount of computers
available means folk are being asked to book in advance and access
will be on the ground floor computers and therefore limited.

I personally feel that the Library has lost "it's soul" after being a regular
user for over 30 years.

The staff are the most helpful folk and yet so stretched in their duties
it reflects on the level of service they are able to give.

It is with sadness I will not be using it much in the future.
