Law family
« on: Saturday 11 September 10 22:07 BST (UK) »
Hi.
I would really appreciate some help with tracking down my great great grandfather James Law's family.
The first reference to him that I have found is on the 1861 Scottish census where he gives his place of birth as Tyrownomight, Ireland. (I assume that this is an old name for Tyrone). He married a Janet Hunter in 1857 in either Torryburn or Alloa Scotland but I can find no evidence of this marriage.
He gives his age as 30 so he would have been born c.1830.
On his death certificate his father's name is given as Daniel Law - Recruiting Sergeant with the 42nd Regiment but they cannot find him on their muster rolls.
Family lore has it that Daniel married a Martha Muir or Moore
If anyone has come across Daniel or James Law in Tyrone or neighbouring counties  in about 1830 I would love to hear about them.
Really hoping that someone can help.

Definitely not.. Is the original return on view?  You might need to make a cut-out of it and post it for translation.

Thanks for your reply. I have been working from a transcription of the census but will now try to see the original.
I have now found a Daniel Law on the 1827 Tythe lists for Galboley near Omagh in County Tyrone but I'm not sure how to try to find out more about the family.
