Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Dabinett Family - 1841
« on: Wednesday 19 April 06 10:23 BST (UK)  »
I am researching William Dabinett born c 1812 Barrington, Somerset. I would like to find him on the 1841 census with his family group. He could have been living in South Petherton by this time.

If possible, I would also like any other family groups still in Barrington.
Sir name sometimes miss-spelt as Dabbinett, Dabnett, etc

Any help anyone can give me would be most gratefully received.

Thanks
Helen

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1841 lookup Leeds - Richard Hall
« on: Sunday 09 April 06 17:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for Richard Hall, senior and junior, in the 1841 census for Leeds.

The first Richard Hall was born c 1776 in Wiltshire but was definitely in Leeds in 1841. In 1851 he was a cloth drawer and was living at 25 Rider Street, Leeds, a widower.

The seciond Richard Hall, his son, was born in Leeds c 1813 and was living with  his father in 1851 at the same address. He is given as a widower in 1851, and was also a cloth drawer, and there are 4 children living with him also: Rebecca, Robert, Maria and Mary Ann - altho' Mary Ann would not have been born in 1841.

I would like to find out the family groups for these 2 as they were in 1841, and hopefully their wives christian names.

many thanks

Helen

Armed Forces / 1850s/1860s Royal Marines
« on: Tuesday 28 March 06 09:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I don't know if you can help me with a family research query that's proving a real problem. My GGG Grandfather was Daniel Hinton. We can't find his marriage but on his son's birth certificate in Dec 1862 he gives his occupation as "Private Royal Marines". He doesn't appear on the 1861 census - his wife does under her maiden name so the marriage must have taken place after March 1861. Nor does he appear on the 1851 and by 1871 his wife gives herself as widow. We also can't find his death anywhere.

Can anyone point me in the direction of getting info for him if he was serving in the army at that time?

Anything that would help us find out more would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 - Charlton. Daniel Hinton
« on: Monday 27 March 06 11:40 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for my Great x 3 grandfather Daniel Hinton. I think he was born in Old Charlton around 1833. His father's name was James. In 1851 he and James are still in Charlton so I am hoping the family was there in 1841 to see if there was anyone else in the household.

Many thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can this be improved?
« on: Wednesday 23 November 05 09:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi again,

Here's another pic from my family album. This is almost certainly twins John and Richard Shelton, born 1849 Pilton, Rutland. John died in 1880 so I am guessing this pic was taken in the 1870s. I was hoping that the lady I posted earlier was their sister Agnes. Any comments on this would be welcome.

In the meantime, can this photo be restored to get rid of the damp damage?

Yours hopefully,
Helen

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Any ideas on when?

This lady appears in an old family album. I don't know who she was but if I could date her it might help narrow it down a bit.

Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Any ideas where?
« on: Tuesday 22 November 05 09:54 GMT (UK)  »
This attached picture shows my great grandma Dorothy Warrener (nee Hounsom) sitting at the right. I want to know where it was taken roughly as that might help identify some of the others in it.

Brief history:
Dorothy was born 1893 in Aldershot, Hampshire. Her father was in the army and the family appear on census returns at the barracks there. In December 1913 she married William Warrener in Hong Kong
and the following September gave birth to my grandfather in Shanghai. Sadly she died from complications the next day. She was 21. I know very little about her and her family as my grandfather was sent back to UK and brought up by his aunt and paternal grandparents.

In the picture Dorothy looks like she might be pregnant. If that's the case it must have been taken in 1914 and would most probably be HK or Shanghai.

Her parents and 7 siblings were back in UK and all four of her brothers enlisted and served in WW1. A newspaper cutting I have reports the death of her brother George from illness during the war at Devonport and mentions their parents still being at Aldershot.

When I first saw the pic I assumed this was a pic of the Hounsom family but if it was taken in far east then that's probably not the case.

Any thoughts on this picture would be most appreciated,
Thanks
Helen
