I wonder if the address of Upton Park is NOT in Liverpool but actually on the Wirral  or Cheshire.

It could be. She is listed on all other census' as just liverpool as place of birth but on one of the later ones it says Upton, Liverpool. Also, her daughter left home and married at 17 to Alexander Glover in Runcorn. I don't know how she came to be there, after living in Llanrhydd up till then. Maybe her mothers relatives lived there.

Well, the mystery carrys on I suppose. The marriage certificate that I ordered is not the one for my ancestors. It had the wrong name of my grandfathers father. I am now thinking they may have married in Liverpool, as thomas davies b 1832 in Llanbedr is missing from the 1861 census. Their daughter was born 1863/4 and is listed on the 1871 census as being born in Llanrhydd, so between the 1851 census and the 1861 census Thomas Davies is missing. He was listed as a shoemaker in Ruthin aged 19 on the 1851 census, then appears again on the 1871 census married to Mary Jones born in Liverpool with the two children, and still listed as a shoemaker in Ruthin.

I am wondering where to start with Mary Jones, as I have no idea where in Liverpool she is from, apart from being listed from Upton, Liverpool.  I can't find a marriage certificate with Thomas Davies and Mary Jones with Thomas Davies' father named Hugh Davies born in Llanbedr. They may have been married in Mary's home town, but lived in Llanrhydd. Their son was named as Robert Owens Davies born 1868, on his birth certificate, is it unusual to have an S on the end of Owen? I am wondering if it was her fathers name? Oh, well I'll just have to keep trawling the lists.

There is an Upton on the Wirrall, it could be. Mary's and Thomas' daughter left home and married at the age of 17 in Runcorn. I've no idea why or how she ended up there. I wondered if she went to stay with relatives there, but who knows!

Llanfrwog is where Thomas' mother Jane was born. That sounds very likely to be them. I've been trawling Ancestry all day! I wonder why it isn't showing on there.

I'm a novice at this family tree building, but completely obsessed with putting it together.

I've just had a look on the site you found it on, and now found it. Have you any idea if there would be more details on the original certificate, such as Mary's parents and place of birth? I am wondering if I would be able to order the certificate from Ruthin Town Hall, or maybe I could e-mail and ask for the details on the certificate?

Thank you ever so much for your help.

Have now had birth certificate for Robert Owens Davies his mother Mary Davies (my third great grandmother) maiden name was Jones. She was born about 1836 in Liverpool, her first born and Roberts sister was a daughter Mary Jane Davies born abt 1863 in Llanbedr, Denbighshire was my second great grandmother.

I have searched for marriage records for Mary Davies nee Jones and my third great grandfather Thomas Davies in the Ruthin District, abt I am guessing just before their daughter Mary Jane was born 1862, but can't find anything. Maybe they got married in Liverpool? As that is where she was born, but only have the place of Upton Park as place of birth stated on a census years later. I know that my third great grandfather was a shoemaker when Robert was born, but was also I think a servant in 1851 in Llanbedr when he was a teenager. I really don't know how he came to marry my third great grandmother who was born in Liverpool, or if she came to wales and met him or vice versa.

Any hints on where I can look apart from Ancestry?

Hi, thanks, I have all that information in my tree, it is Thomas' wife Mary I am looking to find information about. I have searched for marriages about the time their daughter Mary Jane was born in 1864, who was my great great grandmother, but without a maiden name for her, have found it difficult.

On the 1901 census when looking for Robert O Davies, it has him still living with Mary his mother, and it states that she was born Upton Park, Liverpool. Her daughter Mary Jane had left the home by the time Robert was 12, and married an Alexander Glover in Runcorn. How she came to be living there I don't know, but assume she may have gone to live with relatives there maybe, and met her husband there I don't know.

Mary my third great grandmother is a mystery at the moment. I have just come across a Mary Owens on the 1841 census living in Birkenhead, Liverpool (which is near to Upton) in a house with a number of people living there. An Owens Pritchingle aged 60 b. Wales, with his wife Mary b. Ireland. A John and Mary Owens aged 40 and 46, with three children ages 15, 9 and Mary Owens aged 7 who may or may not be my third great grandmother.

Regards,

Karen

Thanks for the reply, I've took a chance and ordered the 1869 one. Hopefully it'll be the right one, if not then I'll just have to order the other one.

Hi, I have come to a complete stop on my family tree. My third great grandfather Thomas Davies born in Llanbedr abt 1832 he married a Mary ? b. abt 1834 who is listed on one of he census as birth place Upton Park, Liverpool. They had two children Mary Jane Davies b 1864 and Robert O Davies b.1869. Thomas was a shoemaker and they went onto live in ruthin. I know the descendants from their daughter Mary Jane, but have no idea where Thomas' wife Mary came from apart from what was on the census. I don't know what her maiden name was. I have tried to find a marriage certificate, without success has I haven't got Mary's maiden name, and don't know where they married. Can anyone help please?
