Thanks Cando.  You are a top researcher!  Thanks a lot to Others in this stream.
I'm sorry but i get overwhelmed with formats in technologies.
I felt glad to read the explanations for the 2 Adelaide Greatrex boys.  I hope they had a good life in America.
It's just so amazing, puzzling, challenging to reflect what branches of a 'family' 'do'!  The travelling that went on!

Julie

I just remembered that an American contact advised me yesterday that the 'ST' in the Morris name that lead, in the US, to him being titled Mr St Morris, referred actually to the surname of 'Stocker'.  That's what i meant by "contraction".

Re:  this one Greatrex starter family in Adelaide.

As i have it, my great grandmother, Elizabeth Caroline Greatrex was the 2nd child, eldest daughter of James (Charles) Greatrex who arrived in the colony in very early 1852.

James' name on the 1852 passenger list was the blunt, 'James Greatrex'.  I found that later in 1852 a "James Henry Greatrex" did arrive in Adelaide.  I don't know at all if there was a kinship there.

James (Charles) Greatrex, is given on some documents that clearly relate to my line that started later when Blanche [b1883], daughter of Elizabeth Caroline Greatrex now Perkins, relocated to Melbourne - for what reason i don't know.

Elizabeth Caroline's father, sometimes plainly recorded as James Greatrex, seems to certainly have had the fuller name of James Charles Greatrex, as given eg on his death registration which also gives collateral namings; his obituary also supports holding him as James Charles Greatrex who arrived in Feb 1852 in Adelaide and was a merchant in central Adelaide for decades.

I don't know the name of James (Charles) Greatrex's father:  my great great great grandfather.  I gather that James (Charles) was born/baptised in Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1820.  But i have no formal record for that.  This date was given to me by a professional and published genealogist in Adelaide who is my paternal 2nd cousin.  However she has not, as far as i know, spent much time on this family branch.

Just where in Warwickshire James Charles Greatrex came from and lived for the first years of his life, and just who is parents were is a mystery to me.  He may have been born and lived in Birmingham, but possibly also in Coventry.

James (Charles) Greatrex and his Adelaide English wife, Elizabeth Amelia Dear, had 3 sons all of whom were given the middle name of 'Henry'.  I have found that the 3 boys' records show one or both parents as i have them.

So was James (Charles) Greatrex's father a 'Henry Greatrex' in some format?
