Thorpe on the Hill is south of Leeds, close to the modern M1/M62 interchange. You can see it on this old map: http://maps.nls.uk/view/102345004  Inconveniently, there's a Thorpe Hall there.

Thorpe Stapleton is on the north bank of the River Aire - see this map: http://maps.nls.uk/view/102344959  Thorpe Hall is shown there, and also Thorpe Hall Iron Works.

However, Thorpe Stapleton is in the parish of Whitkirk, so why a baptism in Rothwell? And Thorpe on the Hill is in Rothwell...

More information needed, I think. Any brothers or sisters? If so, where did they claim to be born?

What I perhaps should have said was, what do they give as their place of birth in 1851 and later censuses? But since you have their baptisms, are there any clues in the entries as to where they lived?

I agree with Lee, there are a few censuses I have come across that have them living at Thorpe Stapleton.

That seems to more or less settle it, I think.

Incidentally, I've just noticed that you posted this in the North Riding section, whereas this is all West Riding. I'll ask a moderator to consider moving it.
