Baptisms at Oxton parents John & Mary FOULDS father a wheelwright or carpenter.
2 Apr 1826 Elizabeth
30 Nov 1828 Sarah----buried aged 5 years 24 Jun 1834
17 Jul 1831 Henry
9 Feb 1834 Jonathan-- buried aged 5 months 15 Jul 1834
2 Aug 1835 Thomas

The 1841 does not always have accurate birth years.

"Children under 15 were to have their age recorded accurately, while those over 15 were to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years so, for example, someone aged 63 should be recorded as aged 60. However, not all enumerators followed this instruction and exact ages may have been recorded."

1851 census John Foulds, Nephew aged 12, living with
John Muller   63  head
Sarah Muller   60
James Foulds   57  brother in law
John Foulds   12   nephew
Jane Foster   21
William Hawood   17

HO107/2134/220 p 13

Okay so this is what I see.
James 1 married Betty and they had:
James 2 (baptised 23/10/1796) and Sarah (baptised 15/03/1792)

Sarah married John Miller in Beeston (on 15/03/1792)
James 2 married unknown and had the children John 1 (born 1803) and Elizabeth (born 1821).

Now I have a simple query which I will over-complicate! Okay here goes. I was after John Foulds (I will call him John 2 - Born 1837 to John 1 and Mary) in 1851. You found him at the house with Sarah and John Miller, Age 12 (along with Sarah's brother James 2) But what I don't understand is he is listed as nephew? He would actually be their Great Nephew wouldn't he? On old censuses would they always refer to great or Great-Great nephews/nieces as just "nephew/niece"?

Hope that is more simple than I made it! Been easier to draw you a diagram! 😂

Thank you!
MJ
Fouldes.<br />Any area where our family are.  My branch started around Derbyshire, Nott's and Yorkshire.  We ended up in South Lincolnshire!  So yay!  Course any area with Fouldes in would help!  See my family tree below for what gaps I have!  Cheers!

Would also like to see any Beaumont's from Sheffield as I have lots of family photos & can't identify them!!

Hi all. Does anyone use familysearch.org?  The reason I ask is I have found it useful to keep a track on family tree bits online.  I have been linking all the records I have on there. But I am struggling to find an 1861 census on there for John Fouldes. It is crazy, I have a print out of it in front of me, but no matter how many search details I put in..... Nothing comes up!

The place is Oxton in Nottinghamshire. The reference number at the bottom is R.G.9/2471
The people are:
John Fouldes. Head. 58. Wheelwright.
Martha Fouldes. Wife. 50.
John Fouldes. Son. 23
James Fouldes. Son. 20
George Herod. Nephew. 14. Scholar.
Mary Harvey. Visitor. 5. Scholar.
Sarah Harvey. Visitor. 3. Scholar.

I have found other censuses in there fine. I don't know why this one is being a git! Should be easy seen as I have a copy in front of me!

Well if anyone sees it and can chuck me a link I would be grateful!

Thanks

MJ

I don't know if I asked before but can anyone see where Elizabeth Harvey (nee Fouldes ) is in 1891? I am not sure if she is widowed from Richard Harvey at this point. I have her on every census including 1901 where she is widowed and living with her granddaughter. She was born in Southwell in 1826 and I have found one record, but it is nowhere near her home and doesn't give much details.

Many thanks
MJ

THANK you!! I saw your original post and thought "Oh hang on I have a printed out version of that from years ago!" It had slipped my mind. So then I tried to input all those details into Family Search and I has no luck whatsoever! I looked for Fouldes/Foulds. I looked for Elizabeth Harvey with spouse, without spouse, with birthplace, without birthplace! Nothing! I was getting very annoyed as I thought "I have the details!! Why can't I find her!!?" Then you posted the link and I saw she was transcribed as "Hawey"! That is quite frustrating, so I thank you so very much!

Wonder if I can tell them it's wrong and get them to change it?

MJ

PS To be honest I have a print of the original image and it does look quite like "Hawey"!

Well I got in a live chat with someone and I just wanted to tell them that the transcription was wrong and they needed to amend but it became really creepy! They wanted to know where I lived, what my phone number was so they could call me. I felt a bit creeped out so told them so and left chat! I just wanted to help others like you had helped me but I found that a really unpleasant experience.

Oh well, at least I feel safer here!

Cheers

That's interesting if unsettling! Many years ago I contacted familysearch (via email) regarding something - I can't really remember what it was, though it was something technical to do with the browser I was using - and had a really good response. As I say though, many years ago, and through email. Very frustrating when you know the transcription is wrong but can't easily get it changed.
