1911 census Beta on Find My Past
« on: Thursday 18 December 08 12:47 GMT (UK) »
This morning I received an email from 'find my past' inviting me to use the Beta version of the 1911 census online... available some of December only.

I scan read the email...  :D

went to the site...  :)

bought £25 of credits...  :o

then noticed you can only search London, Middlesex, Staffordshire & Wiltshire!!   :'(

No good for my Lincs & Northumberland ancestors!!  I was so excited I didn't read the email properly.  I know its my own fault, I'm also putting it down to being home from work poorly.

I just wanted to warn other eager searchers to be more careful.

Merry Christmas

Well, at least they're talking to you! Having registered months ago for updates, I have yet to receive a single e-mail from them :o

Did they provide a link to the Beta site?

Hi

The email I got today is the first I've heard from them.  The email says I registered early to hear about the census - but I presume they just need to 'stager' the increase in use on the site so it doesn't fall over.

I'll be interested to know if anyone finds anything.

The link on the email is above.  Its takes me to the 1911 census site so I'm guessing it will work for other people too.

That just takes me to the standard 1911 site inviting me to register.  Then when I try to register it gives me an error message saying I've already registered :o

No Beta-link...

No?  Then try logging in & then see if it'll let you search the 1991 census.  I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Somewhere, someone else on rootschat MUST have had the email as well.

Yes I have Angel  ;)

I wasted my first 30 credits by lookinmg at the wrong Florence Rogers DOH!!

And then when I did find mine and paid my next 30 credits about a 1/4 of the page(the bit with the address on and my great grandad's signature) is water damaged......grrrrrr.

Be very very careful that you have the right family before you click on to view household schedule- those credits don't half vanish fast.
