Hi!  The picture of the church is beautiful!  My husband's memory is fuzzy about it, since his visit to the graveyard there was in 1956.  He thought his grandparents graves was closer to the right hand side of the picture. Do you have any idea when the picture was taken? Mary McMullan McDonnell and Michael McDonnell are buried there. We were very sad when we heard the church was bombed in the 70s. All of the McDonnell family came to the States in the 1910s, but  Grandfather Michael went back in 1915, wanting to be buried with his wife and two children. He died in 1927. My husband and I celebrated our fiftieth anniversary with a trip to Northern Ireland, several years ago.  It was beautiful!. Sincerely, Elizabeth B

:) Hi Elizabeth, My aunt gave me the picture when she visited us in Australia back in the 90's (who is a McDonnell) unfortunately i cant find my written information that had the details. As she is now in her 90's and suffering from dementia i wont be able to inform you. I will be there on the 11th of April 2011. I am hoping to visit my fathers cousin in Ballymena, who i believe is a whizz in family history also in her 90's. So i will take  my laptop with the photo on it, so she may know. I was interested to see that you are related to the  McMullan's. I came from Big Alex McMullan line  and his daughter Margaret.

Hi Cazzy! Thanks for answering!  I made copies of the picture for our three children. On enlarging the right side, my husband recognized the area of graves exactly where they were when he visited.  The church was still there in 1956. The only McMullans I found married to McDonnells, didn't match ours.  Have you checked the Glens of Antrim Historical Society?  They have a great site! Our Michael McDonnell married Mary McMullan in Ballymena, in 1874.  Michael was a cattle broker, between Ireland and England. They had eleven children. My husband visited with cousins in 1956, but the info needs to be found. Alexander was born in 1875. Mary Ann in 1876, and Michael in 1878.  Using the fact that first born sons were named after their paternal grandfather, and the second son, after the maternal grandfather, I tried chasing those names.  The only Alexander who fits the bill, lived in Ballinderry, Ballykelly Townland, Antrim, 1851 census, a farmer who had 4 servants, one of whom was a cowboy. Having a cowboy seems to link to Michael's job as a cattle dealer. I haven't tried Michael McMullan, yet. Elizabeth

Hi Carol,

Came across this post on a google search about Glenravel Church.  I know I'm about 12 years late replying on here so I hope someone sees this!

I think my Great-Grandfather, Bernard Carey and your Great-Grandmother Susannah Campbell (Carey) were brother and sister!  My Grandmother was Rosena Carey.  I have some photos that you might be interested in seeing - let me know!

All the best - Paul
